WINTER WONDERS MARKS EVERY YEAR EVERYONE’S MINDS!
The 18th Brussels Christmas Market, Winter Wonders opened on Friday evening for the next 5 weeks the centre of the capital city will be transformed into a veritable winter wonderland. Whether you are looking for a special gift for a loved one or just fancy a drink or a bite to eat with family or friends, Winter Wonders offers a wide range of options.
The Christmas market officially opened when the lights were turned on of the Christmas tree on Brussels’ central market square. The Mayor of Brussels Philippe Close (Francophone socialist) and Prince Laurent and his family were among those in attendance. The Christmas market and host of other festivities that make up Winter Wonders will run until 6 January.
The guest country at this year’s Winter Wonders is Finland. The Finnish Kainuu Region will be presenting some so it’s local products and delicacies in a Finnish village that has been built in the Ortstraat near to the Stock Exchange Building. The village includes a tent from Lapland and a “house of silence” in which visitors can take a virtual journey through the wilds of Finland. Each even a light and sound show about the Northern Lights will be held in the courtyard of Brussels Town Hall.
Elsewhere, there is an open air ice rink and a big wheel.
New this year is "The Dome" a high-tech dome in which artist work will be displayed and performances given in association with the “Société des Arts Technologiques” from the Canadian city of Montréal.
With its 2.5 million visitors, Winter Wonders is the unmissable end-of-year event in Brussels which, for the occasion, dons its festive costume and pulls out all the stops on the menu.
The warm and joyful atmosphere of Winter Wonders will surround visitors from all over the world: magical lights from the Great North, cultural and fun activities, original gift ideas and other novelties are awaiting them, making for unforgettable shared moments.
The great classics are all awaiting you: magnificent sound and light at the Grand-Place, the majestic tree, the life-sized manger, the skating rink, the magical lights, the various exhibitions which dot the event…and the Christmas markets, bursting with treasures, which will delight the eyes of the curious and the tastebuds of gourmets.
As well as the classics, a host of novelties add to the fun!
For this 18th edition, a high-tech dome will be set up on the pedestrian zone. In this surprising Dome, 360° audio-visual performances, films, concerts and family activities will mark the marriage between visual and audio arts and new technologies to offer a unique immersive experience.
Two video-mappings will beautify the façades of the St. Catherine’s Church and the Viage, showcasing audio-visual creativity and transforming the buildings into moving works of art.
In rue Orts, another virtual voyage will see Finland setting up its little wooden houses to let us discover their enchanting universe through a whirlwind of magical activities.
Even the real Santa Claus and the Smurfs will participate in the party for a few hours!
Like Brussels, this harmonious blend of tradition and innovation is the strength and uniqueness of Winter Wonders, one of the most popular events in Europe, highlighting the great attractiveness of the capital.
Sound and Lightshow at Grand Place
- A captivating sound and lightshow is projected on the façades of the Grand-Place (inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list) offering an amazing journey to the Great North. Goosebumps guaranteed!
THE new place to be of Winter Wonders. This surprising DOME invites you to a 360° journey of audio and visual creations by artists from the famous « SATosphere » of Société des arts technologiques [SAT] in Montréal.
Various performances, films, concerts and family activities will mark the marriage between visual and audio arts and new technologies to offer a unique immersive experience.
The Skating Rink
A covered skating rink welcomes skaters of all levels who are accompanied by competent guides. We await you at place de la Monnaie.
